It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of one of our Founding Board Members, Dr. Shirley Oliver. We would like to take the time to reflect on the amazing comments from those who served with Dr. Oliver in her long tenure of service in Brooklyn and the greater New York City area.

Dr. Oliver was a union member and leader we could always depend on. She touched so many hearts and gave encouragement to many. She was a jewel that so many of us will miss. Dr. Shirley was a real presence for students and families across Brooklyn. I remember her smile whenever I passed her office or visited with her.

From Chairman- Brookdale Community Advisory Board:
Dr. Oliver ensured the voices of the community were heard, respected, and represented in conversations that shaped local healthcare. She approached her role with wisdom, compassion, and an unshakable commitment to equity, always advocating for improved access, dignity, and quality care for residents. Her voice may be silent but the imprint of her advocacy remains, reminding us that true leadership is measured not by title but by the lives transformed through steadfast commitment and selfless love.

Dr. Oliver was a visionary and a champion for those in her community and lived a life dedicated to service of others in her many roles. At the core of her values, she believed in the promise and freedom of education for the individual and their community. She loved to encourage others through sharing her stories of overcoming obstacles in her life.

She will be missed by so many and her legacy will continue through the work and dedication of cause N Effect Corporation.
